BMO Platinum Rewards Mastercard is a no-annual-fee points card from BMO. Its best everyday rates are 2x on gas stations, and 2x on grocery stores; everything else earns 1x. Gas stations is capped at $2,500 a quarter, then drops to the base rate.
On our reference budget of $24,600 a year it returns about $330, an effective 1.3% back. The welcome bonus, 15,000 points after $1,500 in 3 months, adds to the first year's return.
Put the bonus categories on it and everything else on a flat 2% card. On its own the base rate drags the average down. It charges 3% on foreign purchases, so leave it home when you travel abroad.
