The Venture is the easy travel card: 2 miles on every purchase, no categories, no foreign transaction fee, and miles you can either erase travel purchases with at a cent each or transfer to airline and hotel partners. The Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit alone covers most of the $95 fee once every four years.
Compared with the Sapphire Preferred it earns more on plain spending and less on dining. Compared with a 2% cash card it costs $95 and asks you to redeem for travel. The 75,000-mile bonus after $4,000 in three months is $750 in travel and the main reason to open it in a given year.
Capital One wants excellent credit for this one, and it pulls all three bureaus when you apply, so it is not the card to open while you are building.
