Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard is a $99-a-year miles card from Citi. Its best everyday rates are 2x on dining, and 2x on gas stations; everything else earns 1x. There is also 2x on American Airlines, a single-merchant rate. Rewards are American AAdvantage miles that only spend inside that program, so we value them at roughly a third of a cent each.
On our reference budget of $24,600 a year it earns $102, which clears the $99 fee with $3 to spare before any credits or perks. The welcome bonus, 50,000 miles after $2,500 in 3 months, is the strongest reason to open it in a given year. The annual fee is waived the first year.
Get it if you already fly or stay with American AAdvantage often enough to use the free checked bag. A general travel card earns points that go more places.
