Comenity Toyota Rewards Visa is a no-annual-fee points card from Comenity. Its best everyday rates are 2x on dining, 2x on entertainment, and 2x on gas stations; everything else earns 1x. There is also 5x on Toyota, a single-merchant rate. Rewards are Toyota Rewards points that only spend inside that program, so we value them at roughly a third of a cent each.
On our reference budget of $24,600 a year it returns about $106, an effective 0.4% back. The welcome bonus, 5,000 points after $500 in 90 days, adds to the first year's return.
It is a stepping-stone card. Keep the balance low and revisit once your score reaches the good range, where no-fee cards with better rates open up. It charges 3% on foreign purchases, so leave it home when you travel abroad.
2 points/$1 spent on dining
2 points/$1 spent on entertainment purchases
2 points/$1 spent on gas
5 points/$1 spent at Toyota Dealership
Earn 5,000 bonus points when you spend $500 outside of Toyota Dealerships within the first 90 days of account opening
Comenity adds nothing beyond the Visa Traditional benefits below.
These come from Visa, not from Comenity. Every card on the Visa Traditional tier carries them, so they should not decide between two cards.
