U.S. Bank Altitude Go Secured Visa Signature is a no-annual-fee points card from U.S. Bank. Its best everyday rates are 4x on dining, 2x on gas stations, and 2x on grocery stores; everything else earns 1x.
On our reference budget of $24,600 a year it returns about $450, an effective 1.8% back.
Get it for the reporting. Pay in full, keep the balance under a third of the limit, and ask about graduating to an unsecured card after a year. The rewards are beside the point. It charges 3% on foreign purchases, so leave it home when you travel abroad.
