Capital One Savor Rewards for Students is a no-annual-fee cash back card from Capital One. Its best everyday rates are 3% on dining, 3% on entertainment, and 3% on grocery stores; everything else earns 1%. The 8% rate applies only to entertainment booked through Capital One, so treat it as a bonus rather than the reason to apply.
On our reference budget of $24,600 a year it returns about $642, an effective 2.6% back. The welcome bonus, $100 after $300 in 3 months, adds to the first year's return.
Use it to start a file. Pay in full every month, keep the balance low, and move to a stronger rewards card once you have a year of history.
