On our reference budget of $24,600 a year it returns about $369, an effective 1.5% back. The welcome bonus, $25, adds to the first year's return.
It is a stepping-stone card. Keep the balance low and revisit once your score reaches the good range, where no-fee cards with better rates open up. It charges 3% on foreign purchases, so leave it home when you travel abroad.
Earn a $25 statement credit after signing up for automatic payments within the first three months of opening your account. With automatic payments, just pick a date and dollar amount to make sure your Credit Card gets paid on time.
We help safeguard your credit card purchases using sophisticated fraud monitoring. We monitor for fraud 24/7 and can text, email or call you if there are unusual purchases on your credit card.

These come from Visa, not from Chase. Every card on the Visa Traditional tier carries them, so they should not decide between two cards.
